Art of horse running at viewer painted with war pony symbols in the Smithsonian collection

Sioux WAR PONY-1

This art got it’s start on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation at Cannon Ball, North Dakota. He was painted by Tony Two Bears with help from Lisa Yellow Luger and Karol Two Bears. I was helped by LaDonna Brave Bull Allard who at the time was the Tribe’s historian to locate and get introduced to the generous Two Bears family. “Sioux War Pony-1” is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
